Amidst all the excitement surrounding merits of chatGPT, there are a lot of demerits that need to be highlighted.

ChatGPT is limited by data, in that it has a knowledge cutoff date of September 2021. In essence a query on anything from then onwards would be futile. There is also a significant information risk as chatGPT may be used to generate dangerous information like how to commit certain crimes.

Also, whereas chatGPT provides concise and dialogue-based response, there is no guarantee that the information generated by the chatbot is accurate and this can have serious implications.

Moreover, chatGPT can reproduce toxic language, stereotypes and discrimination. ChatGPT also has the propensity for humanization which may evoke a heightened sense of trust in the user and may in turn be used to gain access to private information.

There is also the ever-present fear, that just like all other technology there could be lay off of human resources in industries that work with texts.

There are a lot of ethical and controversial limitations to this technology but if they are duly addressed and rectified, chatGPT would be one of the best technological advancements this century has seen.

The potential and possibilities are limitless.
